Team 10 of Delft University of Technology, with the boat Team X, designed and built the fastest radio controlled model sailing boat of the Netherlands. On January 20th, the team won the design and sailing contest out of 15 competing teams from Delft University of Technology and Inholland University of Applied Sciences. The contest finished with a race in the Shallow Water Basin at MARIN in Wageningen. The winning team, formed by Joost Doude van Troostwijk, Matthijs Gawehn, Ilan de Keersmaecker en Casper rensen, designed a boat with two masts and a deep keel with a lot of ballast. This resulted in a very stable sailing boat. This together with good steermanship proved to be the winning combination. The design Atilgan, made by Murat Imat, Jeroen Kunnen, Thomas Mohren and Tom Wiegerinck of Delft University of Technology, won the Innovation Prize. This team designed a wing sail composed of two parts, generating a high level of thrust. This innovation is already being used for real sailing boats in the prestigious American's Cup. The fact that the team succeeded in using this concept on model scale was highly appreciated by the jury. In the race, the sailing boats were assessed for speed, turning ability and innovation and had to race on two tracks. The boats had to show that they not only are fast on a straight track, but also could rapidly round bouys.
